New free practical guide for primary care - and others - on helping patients quit tobacco from IPCRG. https://www.theipcrg.org/display/TreatP/Helping+patients+quit+tobacco%3A... We've used the evidence plus experience from two of our implementation programmes, one funded by Global Brides, and the other by the European Union Horizon 2020 framework, in 7 low income settings: Kyrgyzstan, Uganda, Vietnam, Crete, Bulgaria, Romania, North Macedonia to produce this guidance. It's our 3rd edition, and only available in English so far, but previous editions have been translated into multiple languages. It has a Creative Commons licence and we invite HIFA members to translate and adapt to their local context if they wish - please acknowledge us, and, if there is a local IPCRG group, work with them. It builds on our peer-reviewed position paper Treating tobacco dependence: guidance for primary care on life-saving interventions. Position statement of the IPCRG: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5466643/
It proposes Very Brief Advice (the 3 As), not the 5 As, and also VBA Plus, where there is no specialist quit tobacco service and it also shows how and when to use motivational interviewing, which many primary care colleagues are taught.
It is written by and for frontline healthcare professionals.
