Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy (RSAP) is compiling a special issue to examine the meaning, relevance and impact of health literacy in pharmacy practice. We are keen to receive papers that examine health literacy from consumer, pharmacist, and broader health-system perspectives as well as papers that examine the organizational enablers and constraints associated with effective communication in pharmacy practice. Reports of theoretically grounded descriptive, observational or interventional studies addressing novel or previously unstudied determinants will receive priority.

Of particular interest are papers demonstrating the use and/or rigorous evaluation of recognized tools and techniques for improving health literacy among patients and consumers, especially those that focus on pharmacy practice; economic, clinical, and humanistic domains of the medication use continuum; or incorporation of health literacy concepts into pharmacy student and practitioner education. We also seek work on an increasingly important component; that is, interventional work for improving provider communication in plain language to optimize patient-centered healthcare decision-making. Review, discussion, and commentary pieces, which draw on existing research to inform any or more of these issues, are welcome.

Papers should be submitted to Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy on its electronic platform at http://ees.elsevier.com/rsap. The deadline for submission is November 1 for publication in 2018.

There are a number of advantages to publishing in any of RSAP’s special issues, including media support by Elsevier and more frequent citations of your published papers.

RSAP is a bi-monthly journal (becoming monthly in 2018) published by Elsevier that is the international home for theory-based and rigorous, methodologically-driven work in the social, clinical, and administrative sciences. It has the highest SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) of any journal in the category of ‘pharmacy’. RSAP has an increasingly public health bent aimed to demonstrate the need for and effectiveness of pharmacists and support cadres to avail patients of necessary medication-based services. RSAP's mission is to improve the visibility and quality of social pharmacy research, worldwide.

We encourage your submission. Please pass this along to others whom you feel might have interest.

Please contact one of the guest editors with any questions.
