HIFA profile: Octavia-Luciana Madge is an Associate Professor at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Letters, Department of Information and Documentation Sciences, Romania and the editor-in-chief of the journal Studii de Biblioteconomie şi Ştiinţa Informării / Library and Information Science Research published by the University of Bucharest. She is also a Medical Doctor, member of the Bucharest College of Physicians. She was employed at the Bucharest Emergency Clinical Hospital during her training as a Family Physician. Her most recent clinical activity is in an Emergency Department. Call for Papers


Dear colleague,

On behalf of the ISHIMR 2020 Committee, we warmly invite you to participate in the 18th International Symposium for Health Information Management Research (ISHIMR), which will take place at Linnaeus University, on 17-18 September 2020, in Kalmar, Sweden.

The theme of this meeting will focus on “Using digital information for better patient health, care and well-being”.

ISHIMR 2020 will bring together a multidisciplinary audience of researchers in the general area of e-health, health informatics and health information management research, people with clinical responsibilities, care organizations, and businesses that operate in this field. The symposium will provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of research and technological innovations. We therefore welcome the submission of full papers (for oral presentation) and research abstracts (for poster presentations). The meeting will also host a doctoral consortium on the 16 September 2020.

ISHIMR 2020 is being organised and hosted by the eHealth Institute, Linnaeus University and the Information School, University of Sheffield.


We welcome submissions relating to research and development on the conference theme in its broadest sense.

The conference will cover a range of topics relating to digital health information to support better health including, but not limited to:

- Data mining and knowledge discovery in health

- Strategies for the management of health data and information

- Health knowledge management strategies

- Health informatics systems

- Clinical decision support systems

- Tracking activities and health

- Emerging trends in health informatics

- Health data linkage and combining health records

- Big data and new methods of analysis

- AI in health

- Pharmacy informatics

- Social media and health communication

- Health Information needs and information behaviours

- Remote health monitoring and telecare

- Implementation and management of ehealth

- Text mining in health data

- Assessment and evaluation of eHealth applications


You and your colleagues are invited to submit your research or demos. All contributions will be blind peer-reviewed by at least two members of the Programme Committee.

The deadline for submission of papers and poster abstracts is 15 February 2020. All papers presented and abstracts for posters will be published in the 18th ISHIMR Conference Proceedings. As with previous ISHIMR conferences, the best papers will be considered for publication in a special issue of the Health Informatics Journal and in the International Journal of Health Information Management Research (IJHIMR).
