Coronavirus (849) Will there be fair access to coronavirus vaccines?

22 July, 2020

Dear Neil,

HIFA members may be interested in reading a recent article from AP in the Washington Post (More than 150 countries sign up for global vaccine plan https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/more-than-150-countries-sign...)

I'm not sure if it's behind a paywall, but I pull out a couple of quotes below:

"The Associated Press reported this week that the Gavi initiative may allow rich countries to reinforce their own coronavirus vaccine supplies while leaving fewer doses available for more vulnerable populations."

"Critics say offering rich countries the chance to buy even more vaccines through Gavi essentially allows them to hoard limited COVID-19 vaccines without consequences."

The same story from AP in the New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2020/07/15/business/ap-eu-virus-outbrea...

Thanks

Julie
