Dear HIFA colleagues,
On behalf of the HIFA Steering Group, I am delighted to welcome Bridge2Aid (UK) as a new HIFA Supporting Organisation!
'Bridge2Aid fights the causes of poverty in some of the poorest communities in the developing world. We do this by strengthening local healthcare systems – specifically by training local healthcare workers in the provision of emergency dental treatment. Oral disease, infection and chronic pain, desperately need to be addressed in these communities to enable people to work, attend school and care for their families. Initially, we have developed our programme in rural Tanzania, and our long term plan is to roll this training out to any country where there is a need. Bridge2Aid believes that everybody has the right to safe emergency dental care.'
We look forward to collaborate with Bridge2Aid to ensure that dental health practitioners and patients have access to the information they need to protect their oral health. Did you know (Global Burden of Disease Study 2017) that oral diseases affect close to 3.5 billion people worldwide, with caries of permanent teeth being the most common condition? Prevention and treatment of dental disease is important and we look forward to include this more in our discussions going forward.
There are now *414* Supporting Organisations worldwide committed to the HIFA vision: a world where every person and every health worker has access to the healthcare information they need to protect their own health and the health of others. Best wishes, Neil
