Thank you for the post.
The Index Medicus for East Mediterranean Region (IMEMR) (http://www.emro.who.int/e-library/imemr/index.html) started in mid 1980’s and is still going on. Thanks to George Guriguis and Chris Zielinski who started the project at that time with a small number of health sciences journals form the Region. When I took over in 1994, I decided to expand the Index and have all countries of the Region represented there by providing their health sciences journals. Indexing and revision of the indexing terms are performed by health scientists. When I moved to WHO/HQ, the LNK (a unit within the department of KER) created the Global Health Library (I am not sure it is still there). The idea was to bring all the regional indexes together in one searchable database.
