HIFA joins with the International Alliance of Patients' Organisations and others worldwide to recognise Patient Solidarity Day, 6 December.
From the IAPO website:
Theme: Accelerating progress for Safe Patient-Centred Universal Health Coverage
On Friday 6th December 2019, health stakeholders from all over the world will stand together, united in a celebration of Patient Solidarity Day (PSD). This will be the seventh year running that we have joined hands to mark the Day. On PSD 2019, IAPO members, patients, various healthcare organizations, policy-makers, academia, industry and other stakeholders will come together to call for 'Acceleration of Progress for Safe Patient-Centred Universal Health Coverage' to guarantee safe healthcare for all.
Comment (Neil PW): The voice of patients is underrepresented on HIFA, despite the fact that access to reliable healthcare information (for patients as well as health workers) is one of the greatest barriers to safe, person-centred care. If anyone has connections with patients, representatives, or patient associations, please foward this message to them and invite them to join.
Here is some introductory text you can use/adapt:
Access to reliable healthcare information (for patients as well as health workers) is one of the greatest barriers to safe, person-centred care. Healthcare Information For All (HIFA) is a dynamic global health community working to improve the availability and use of reliable healthcare information, especially in low- and middle-income countries where lack of information is a major contributor to avoidable death and suffering as a result of indecision, delay, misdiagnosis, and incorrect treatment. HIFA has 20,000 members (health professionals, librarians, publishers, researchers, policymakers, human rights activists and others) in almost every country, interacting on 6 global discussion forums in 4 languages (English, French, Portuguese and Spanish). HIFA works closely in collaboration with the World Health Organization and is supported by 400 health and development organisations worldwide. Website www.hifa.org Join here: www.hifa.org/joinhifa
