Tribute to Emeritus Prof Akinkugbe who dies at 86

We are shocked and saddened but we Give Glory and Adoration to GOD for granting Professor Oladipo Akinkugbe who passed to eternal life aged 87 years on June 15, 2020 in Ibadan, Nigeria a good life by any parameter.

His accomplishments (see below) in the practice of his profession of medicine says it all, except that for us in HRI West Africa Publisher of BMJ West Africa Edition (a local edition of British Medical Journal BMJ from 1995-2018, we shall remember him for his wondrous and inestimable advice to the Journal as one of our maiden Editorial Advisers in 1995. In his company were fellow doyens of the medical profession in our country and the finest brains as teachers, fathers and mothers, mentors and superb advocates for best in ethical professional practice- ‘Good Medical Practice’. In today’s parlance we shall they were all Clinically Governed!. They don’t come so fine these days. They included Late Professor T. A. Lambo, late Prof Olikoye Ransome Kuti, Late Prof J.R. Ana, Late Prof John Kwartey (Accra Ghana), Late Prof Femi Pearse, Late Prof Elegbute, Late Prof F A Nwako, Late Prof Phillip Effiong. We thank God Almighty that we still have with us Prof Umaru Shehu, Prof JC Azubuike, Prof Idris Mohammed.

Our final prayer for our departed teacher and mentor, our latest departed doyen, icon and elder, Prof Oladipo Akinkugbe is that The Good Lord grant his soul eternal Rest in Perfect Peace. And to his family, the courage to bear the huge loss in the knowledge that he lived a good and richly fulfilled Life. Amen.
