The revised Child Abuse Prevention Law and the revised Child Welfare Law, which prohibit corporal punishment by parents, were passed at the Diet on the 19th of June.
The ban is clarified. However, there is no penalty for it.
There are media reports of child death due to corporal punishment every month. Sweden banned corporal punishment with a penalty in 1979. So, Japan has not reached the level of Sweden's 40-year-old decision.
