One critical step to addressing the health worker shortfall is allowing people to study healthcare in their own language.
One gentleman who has done amazing work in this regard is Subas Chandra Rout, a retired orthopedic surgeon in his 70s. He has written more than 1,200 medical articles in Oriya and put them on Wikipedia in that language.

This is a language which is spoken by more than 40 million people and for which machine translation does not exist. Subas exemplifies just how much one person can accomplish for the greater good of his community :-)
