'Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness, amputation, heart disease, kidney failure and early death. Simple action can reduce the risk.'
'Over 50% of Type 2 diabetes is preventable.'
This is the message of World Diabetes Day, 14 November.
'The first step to preventing type 2 diabetes is knowing your risk. Find out through our interactive tool and help us reach our target of 1 million people tested by the end of November.' [*see note below]
'The IDF Diabetes Atlas provides the latest figures, information and projections on diabetes worldwide. The 9th Edition of the Atlas will be published on November 14, 2019.'
Note from HIFA moderator (Neil PW): Knowing one's individual risk of diabetes may be helpful, but arguably what is more important is a basic understanding of why diabetes is so important for each of us and what we can do to prevent it. In addition, public health measures to promote healthy diet and lifestyle are fundamental.
Best wishes, Neil
