Meningitis has significant links with many other diseases: bacteria that cause pneumonia can also cause meningitis; TB can lead to meningitis; cryptococcal (fungal) meningitis is a significant cause of AIDS deaths; and there is substantial misdiagnosis of meningitis as malaria).
