AFREhealth Introduction

19 December, 2019

Dear HIFA Community,

I am writing to introduce African Forum for Research and Education in Health (AFREhealth) [https://www.afrehealth.org/] - an interdisciplinary health professions organization that works with educational institutions, ministries of health, and other stakeholders to improve the quality of health care in Africa through research, education and capacity building with a focus on health workforce development and inter-professional collaboration. It is composed of individuals, institutions, associations and networks from all the geographic and linguistic regions of Africa, namely Anglophone, Francophone, Lusophone and Arabophone.

AFREhealth has immense potential to achieve significant impact across Africa. Its overarching challenge at this stage is establishing the strong organizational structures, processes, and capacities essential to AFREhealth's development and pursuit of its mission. The landscape of African health institutions is increasingly competitive, and likely to become more so as new African organizations continue to enter the mix. As funding and thought leadership continue to shift towards African institutions, AFREhealth has a unique opportunity to establish itself among leading health education and research institutions addressing Africa's most pressing health challenges. AFREhealth’s success calls for sustained commitment, strong leadership, targeted organizational development efforts, and strategic resource mobilization.

Health Workforce for the 21st Century (HW21) is a consortium of organizations led by Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University. HW21?s goal is to accelerate achievement of 95-95-95 treatment targets through increasing the capacity, coordination, absorption and retention of nurses, midwives, pharmacists, community health workers, social service workers, and other related cadres that provide services to people living with HIV, TB, and other infectious and chronic diseases in high-HIV prevalence areas. HW21 has been working very closely with AFREhealth and supporting the expansion of its initiative.

Currently, HW21 seeks a Membership Development and Strategic Communication Advisor to engage with AFREhealth leadership and the Secretariat staff team to develop membership. If you are interested in the position or feel that you have the necessary experience, please send your CV and cover letter to https://jobs-jhpiego.icims.com/jobs/3757/consultant---membership-develop...
