We are pleased to inform you that WHO AFRO, has established a collaboration with the University of New Mexico (UNM) to implement the Project ECHO® (Extension of Community Health Outcome) virtual Community of Practice (vCOP) by replicating the ECHO Model. Project ECHO is a collaborative distance education and mentoring model for health worker training and care management, empowering clinicians and public health professionals in resource challenged settings to strengthen public health programs through rapid dissemination of evidence-based best practices, WHO guidelines and to strengthen the quality of clinical care to more people close to where they live.

This initiative aims at strengthening health services and networks in all 47 Member States towards attaining Universal Health Coverage. This will be achieved through creation and running virtual Community of Practice (vCOP) for various AFRO programmes such as HIV/Tuberculosis/Hepatitis/ Sexually Transmitted Infections (HTH), Tropical and Vector borne Diseases (TVD) and Diseases Surveillance, Preparedness and Response to outbreaks, in addition to two cross-cutting vCOP for laboratories and strategic information.
