The HIFA Strategy accelerates progress towards the HIFA Vision by promoting communication, understanding, and advocacy among all stakeholders in the production, exchange and use of healthcare information, thereby helping to strengthen the Global Healthcare Information System (see tab below).
Communication, understanding and advocacy are promoted respectively through the HIFA Forums, HIFA Voices database, and HIFA Advocacy:
Figure: The HIFA Strategy. Progress towards the HIFA vision is assisted by HIFA SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) defined by the HIFA members. To date, two HIFA SMART goals have been defined: Mobile Healthcare Information For All and Information on Medicines For All.
‘The development of reliable, relevant, usable information can be represented as a system that requires cooperation among a wide range of professionals including health-care providers, policy makers, researchers, publishers, information professionals, indexers, and systematic reviewers. The system is not working because it is poorly understood, unmanaged, and under-resourced.’ The Lancet 2004
