ICHG Statement on the Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza - May 2025

31 May, 2025

Dear CHIFA colleagues,

I would like to share with you ICHG's latest statement on Gaza (below). ICHG, ISSOP and HIFA jointly administer CHIFA.

19 months of war.

11 weeks of total siege.

A minimum of 53,901 deaths.

Dear ICHG Members,

We are writing to share with you the International Child Health Group’s latest statement on the humanitarian catastrophe and ongoing genocide in Gaza. As child health professionals, we cannot stay silent in the face of indiscriminate attacks on civilians, hospitals, healthcare workers, and the deliberate blockade of humanitarian aid — all in violation of international law.

Over 53,000 Gazans have been killed, nearly a third of them children. Children are dying not only from airstrikes but also from starvation, dehydration, and lack of access to healthcare. The entire population faces emergency levels of food insecurity, and only a fraction of hospitals remain operational. Paediatricians and healthcare staff have been killed, arbitrarily detained, or are working under inhumane conditions.

This is a genocide. Multiple international organisations — including Amnesty International and UN agencies — have described the situation as systematic, deliberate, and targeted. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli and Hamas leaders for war crimes.

We are urging UK-based members to write to their MP and demand immediate action from the UK government.
