Dear Dr. Fitton,
Thank you for sharing this important update and for highlighting the need to keep citizens at the heart of global discussions on AI governance. I truly appreciate the perspective you brought through your paper at the UN World Data Forum and your continued advocacy on this subject.
As someone currently pursuing the AI Research Specialist Certification (IIAR™) with a focus on AI in health and education, I find the UN’s establishment of the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI and the Global Dialogue on AI Governance to be both timely and encouraging. These mechanisms provide a vital opportunity to ensure that the benefits of AI are harnessed responsibly while safeguarding sensitive health information—especially in areas such as sexual and reproductive health, mental health, and gender-related care.
From my experience in maternal and child health advocacy and through the work of EasyLearn Academy Global (ELAG) in underserved communities, I have seen firsthand how lack of trust and fear of misuse of personal data can limit individuals from seeking care or sharing critical information with healthcare providers. AI governance that prioritizes equity, inclusivity, and data protection will be essential in bridging this trust gap.
It is my hope that these new UN initiatives will not only shape global policy but also amplify the voices of citizens, families, and vulnerable groups, ensuring that no one is left behind as AI transforms the future of healthcare and education.
With gratitude,
Dr. Chigozie Michael Nwalozie (M.D.)
