Chris Zielinski notes: 'In the hands of a human interpreter - a nurse or physician - AI can certainly be a powerful tool but, without human mediation, there is no way AI could be "the most reliable physician in history".

AI is already being used directly by patients without a health worker intermediary.

The reference to 'most reliable physician in history' comes from Dr Bot: 'In this groundbreaking study, Charlotte Blease reveals how AI, if handled with care, could emerge as the most reliable physician in history'.

Is ChatGPT more reliable than a doctor? I asked ChatGPT and it replied:

'No, ChatGPT is not more reliable than a doctor — at least, not yet...'

There are many things that a doctor can do that are not possible for ChatGPT. For example ChatGPT cannot do a physical examination. And it cannot br relied on to provide the most uptodate, localised information. 'This limits its ability to reliably make diagnoses.' Doctors will also typically have relevant knowledge about the patient, such as medical history, that will normally be missing with ChatGPT.

'In terms of overall reliability for diagnosis, treatment planning, prognosis, emergency care, etc., no — doctors are still much more reliable.'

Best wishes, Neil
