Dear CHIFA Colleagues,
I am sharing this message with you on behalf of the ICHG Conference Committee. It is in regard to the upcoming 2025 ICHG Annual Conference which will come off next week the 26th of November on a very vital theme; “Hope Across Borders: Protecting Children in Global Health Crises”.
The message is as follows:
Dear Colleagues,
Our 2025 ICHG Annual Conference is fast approaching!
This year’s theme is “Hope Across Borders: Protecting Children in Global Health Crises”. The conference will be held online on 26th November and registration is via Medtribe (https://medtribe.com/courses/ichg-annual-conference-2025)
The conference will feature inspiring keynote speakers from MSF, Save the Children and ISSOP alongside some thought-provoking plenaries and panel discussions throughout the day on Conflict, Child Health and Food Insecurity, Health Systems Resilience and Decolonising Global Health, Child Health Advocacy: the Role of the Child Health Professional.
The first plenary will consider the stark reality that in recent years the number of children exposed to conflict has been heartbreakingly increasing.
According to UNICEF "A record number of children affected by conflict arehaving their rights violated, including being killed and injured, out of school, missing life-saving vaccines, and being critically malnourished.
The number is only expected to grow. Conflict drives approximately 80 percent of all humanitarian needs around the world, disrupting access to essentials, including safe water, food and healthcare." (https://www.unicef.org/press-releases/not-new-normal-2024-one-worst-year...)
This plenary will focus on the basic needs (food and health) of the 1 in 6 children and young people globally who are growing up in areas affected by conflict.
If you are a colleague working in an area affected by conflict or would like to learn more, we would welcome you to join us and/or to contribute to this discussion thread - tell us where you see the greatest need and what you feel could be done to help.
Best wishes,
ICHG Annual Conference 2025
Moderator's (EK) Comment I am adding my voice to this announcement, encouraging members to mark the date of their calendars and to join the conference. Also, feel free to share your thoughts and on the theme as we draw close to the conference day. What do you think about child protection during global crises? What are your own experiences regarding child protection especially in unsafe situations? How has your work in the past or currently affected child protection especially in conflict and hostile environments? Aside from the unsafe environment, what are some other barriers (and enhancers if there are) for child protection activities in unsafe environments. What can be done to help children in global health crises? Please, let us keep the discussions going on this issue in anticipation of the conference. I am looking forward to your participation and great insight. Thank you.
