Dear Kathleen,

Thank you for your message about this very interesting project 'to develop evidence-based communication guidance for raising eoCRC prevention and awareness among young adults'.

Please let us know if you have thoughts on how HIFA can help you achieve your objectives.

Possibilities include HIFA discussion around questions relating to the project (you have already opened this up very nicely and I encourage HIFA members to respond). There are also likely a few people on HIFA with a special interest in early onset colorectal cancer who may like to engage with the project in some way.

Personally, I was fortunate to meet Deborah James at Chatham House several years ago. At that time she already had stage 4 bowel cancer, diagnosed age 35. I was inspired by her positivity and energy and her commitment to help ensure that other cases could be prevented with health education. She went on to host You, Me and the Big C podcast on the BBC and received a Damehood from Prince William in May 2022. She died at the end of June 2022 and her work continues as the Bowelbabe Fund: https://www.bowelbabe.org/

A quote from her on the Bowelbabe website:

“Find a life worth enjoying, take risks, love deeply, have no regrets and always, always have rebellious hope. And finally, check your poo – it could just save your life”

Dame Deborah James

I look forward to learn more about your work and how HIFA can contribute.

Best wishes, Neil
