[Re: https://www.hifa.org/dgroups-rss/how-use-hifa-forums-1 ]
Hi Neil
Thanks for the email about the HIFA forum use/rules, and the need to declare the use of ChatGPT, etc.
I’ve found the debates and merits of tools to assist writing and communication interesting. I completely agree that driven by the human mind and assisted by AI, or perhaps we should say generative LLM AI content, needs to be managed, acknowledged and declared, without fear, if it is to aid, not replace original human thinking.
We all accept assistive tools such as spell/grammar checkers, which are so embedded that disclosure would be meaningless. However, generative AI has the potential to significantly change structure, phrasing and original thought. Therefore, readers need to be able to know how content is produced.
So, my points are perhaps, the risk of both misleading the reader about original content production, and being misled by so called ‘AI hallucinations’, where content can look credible but in fact is misleading or wrong.
We therefore also risk ‘throwing away’ tools that could be useful, just because we do not fully understanding their role or how to use them appropriately.
Best wishes
David Chandler
