Re. Reflections on the IAPO webinar
Just attended the IAPO webinar. All Presenters were equally engaged yet focused mostly on the theme of “Safe care for NCDs” and not much on its critical intersections with “Safe care for Life”!
In high risk industries, the model of the discipline of Patient Safety, the "black box" model, refers to a system where the *inputs* are known, but the internal processes and mechanisms that transform the inputs into outputs are not directly examined or are opaque.
Based on decades of “lived experience “ of caregiving and engaging with healthcare professionals/ providers, in addition to my own *nonformal *research I realize that EQUITY represents this black box of Patient Safety, where “Safe Care for Life” of NCD patients continue to be invisible in relevant legislation and ethical norms of clinical decision making.
The WHO resources on *Intention to Action* series provide a global model for integrating LE expertise focused on ethical and just representation, which can integrate the WPSD theme with its critical slogan. Even though the IAPO session did not have time to respond to my question(s), I believe that a systematic approach to share and communicate relevant *information* through nonformal participatory learning could translate this vision into reality.
