Dear All,
As a follow-up to the reply of Dr Meena Nathan Cherian, most simulation-based training centres established by HelpMeSee are associated with specialist training of ophthalmologists, so only residents and young ophthalmologists are admitted for training in these centres.
However, HelpMeSee has a training Centre in Antananarivo, Madagascar, that focuses on training general medical practitioners to become Diplomates in ophthalmology/Cataract Surgeon.
As you may be aware, there are countries in East Africa, notably Kenya and Tanzania, who train and employ non-physician clinical officers to become cataract surgeons. They are admitted for simulation training in the HelpMeSee collaboration Simulation training centre at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC).
A new Centre has been established by HelpMeSee at the Sheikh Zayed Regional Eye Care Centre (SZRECC) for non-physician cataract surgeons. Ophthalmic nurses are admitted at the centre as part of the training of ophthalmic cataract surgeons.
You can contact me or info@helpmesee.org for more information or clarification.
Best.
