The 5th Edelman Trust Barometer Special Report (3) Reliable healthcare information (2)

26 April, 2026

Dear Evelyn and all,

Thank you for your message. You note: "More and more we need to spread correct Health Information from trusted networks, like HIFA forum!"

I would like to take this opportunity to clarify the role of HIFA:

The availability and use of reliable healthcare information is dependent on the integrity of the global evidence ecosystem and cannot be achieved by any one organisation. HIFA's primary purpose is not to provide reliable healthcare information. Thousands of organisations, notably the World Health Organization itself, provide reliable healthcare information with much greater resources than are available to HIFA.

HIFA's unique and primary purpose is to strengthen communication, understanding and advocacy across the global evidence ecosystem and thereby advance the goal of universal access to reliable healthcare information. hifa.org/about-hifa

Communication: HIFA has 20,000 members in 180 countries, representating all six components of the global evidence ecosystem (those who generate, publish, synthesise, repackage, avail and apply evidence) and interacting 24/7 in four languages - hifa.org/forums

Understanding: HIFA hosts spontaneous and structured thematic discussions on the full range of topics relating to the global evidence ecosystem - hifa.org/projects

Advocacy: HIFA promotes universal access to reliable healthcare information (defined as a world where every person has access to the information they need to protect their health and the health of others). To date we have secured official endorsement of this goal by more than 400 organisations worldwide, by the world's doctors (through the World Medical Association) and by the world's health information and library professionals (through the International Federation of Library Associations). Our current focus for this year is to achieve the same with WHO itself (after 20 years of advocacy we believe this is imminent) and with the world's medical journal editors (through the World Assocation for Medical Editors) - hifa.org/who

We welcome collaboration and support for all the above. Contact: neil@hifa.org

Best wishes, Neil
