Beliefs don't, as you say, seem to be tractable by Aristotelian debate and, maybe, respond better to "influencers".
Also, looking at the National American Literacy Survey of 1993 only 3 % of the population had the capacity to carry on and understand an Aristotelian debate - this in a country that has had universal primary and secondary school education for a century.
