Case Report Form Development: Laying the Foundation for Effective Data Collection in Research (3)

27 October, 2024

We conducted a study in Malawi on the utilisation of the case report forms for Covid-19 - this study revealed problems of form design but also knowledge challenges. We noted how various issues on the “knowledge spectrum” affected the completion and utilisation of the forms. A lack of access to, knowledge of and experience of guidelines technical or clinical regarding how to fill the form led to gaps and inconsistencies in the data captured. However, other type of knowledge was also essential, which is knowledge of the people and context - this comes from experience and it is not captured in textbooks.
