Changes to diarrhea episodes among children in the context of improved handwashing for prevention of Covid-19??

16 July, 2020

Hello all,

I heard a colleague mention that a health facility in Aizawl, Mizoram, India has had fewer cases of diarrhea among children over the past couple of months. Cases are typically high at this time when the monsoon starts in India. She wondered if this was due to more frequent hand washing for the prevention of Covid-19.

Has this been studied to any extent? Do you have similar anecdotes?

Thanks

Editor Note: I have also read the proposition that social distancing and lock down may alter the usual pattern of seasonal respiratory Illnesses. In some countries the ascertained rates for seasonal flu have been down. The question is whether this is real or due to altered diagnostic labelling. There is so much interesting scientific analysis to be done on the back of this pandemic. Health: Social: Environmental: and Economic. Tom Hutchison
