In Chikankata district there are ten organisations of persons with disabilities. These organisations came together and formed a network called Chikankata district community based inclusive development network. The network is inclusive of professionals from health, education, agriculture, community development, traditional leaders and faith based organisations. This was done to promote inclusive development and to have a platform for exchange of knowledge and information sharing.
Education justice: we need more children with disabilities to have access to education. To establish the types of impairments that are there in the district and know what intervention measures are needed. To lobby for educational materials for children who are blind and those with visual impairment.
Accessibility to health: here we are talking about rehabilitation services, introduction of home based support, training of community based counsellors, nutrition, eye health care services, access to hiv testing and follow-up services. Lobbying of medical equipment for use during community outreach programmes. These activities need support
Economic inclusion: here we are looking at social and economic independence, skills development and entrepreneurship
Climate justice: disability inclusive climate action. Advocating for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.
Within the given context yes but we need support to have consolidated information on health and education. We need the baseline information so that once we have known where we are after understanding some interventions we will know to what degree we have made improvements in the lives of persons with disabilities in Chikankata district. It will help us in monitoring and in evaluation. In Africa Zambia inclusive there is no much data about disability, types of impairments and major causes of impairments, economic status of those affected by impairments. We would be grateful if supported to have such information in our district.
Thanks
