Collaboration Opportunity: NIH R01 Initiative on Health Disparities in Latino Populations

21 April, 2026

Dear Colleagues,

Warm greetings to the Latino Partners community within Health Information for All (HIFA).

I am reaching out to explore potential collaboration on an upcoming R01 proposal to the National Institutes of Health focused on addressing disparities in non-communicable and chronic diseases among Hispanic/Latino populations in the United States and across Latin America.

The proposed initiative aims to evaluate a community-integrated care navigation model that combines clinical coordination with support for social determinants of health, including food access, housing stability, and transportation. This effort is being developed in partnership with The Evergreen State College and will include collaboration with Latin American academic and community-based partners.

Given HIFA’s commitment to improving access to reliable health information and strengthening health systems globally, we believe this network offers a unique opportunity to:

Identify potential Latin American academic or implementation partners

Engage experts in health equity, community health, and health systems strengthening

Foster cross-country collaboration and knowledge exchange

We would welcome the opportunity to connect with members interested in contributing to this effort, particularly those with experience in Latin America in areas such as chronic disease management, community-based interventions, or health systems research.

If this aligns with your interests, I would be grateful to connect for a brief discussion or to continue the conversation within the HIFA platform.

Thank you for your ongoing work and leadership in advancing global health equity.

Warm regards,

Shabina Hussain, MPH
