Compelling Direct Impact Data?

4 February, 2023

Hi to all - a key question that so many of us are asked on such a regular basis is "_what impact did you have?_" _Demonstrate to us that the strategies you are implementing are effective_.

The CINet [ https://www.comminit.com/global/category/sites/global ] is working in partnership and with support from UNICEF SBC [ https://www.sbcguidance.org/ ] NY, to identify high quality, compelling research data demonstrating the direct impact of social change, behaviour change, community engagement and communication/media strategies on priority development issues, including health [ https://directimpact.comminit.com/ ].

1. At the recent SBCC Summit in Matrrakech participants received a pack of cards with 52 examples of high quality. compelling impact data.

2. The direct impact data from those cards are now online in a format by which they can be filtered and searched - for the home page please use this link [ https://directimpact.comminit.com/ ] and the search page is here [ https://directimpact.comminit.com/ci_search?keys=&field_domain_access=di... ].

3. The high standard criteria for inclusion online remains the same as for the deck of cards - namely:

* Positive change or trend in a priority development issue;

* Social change or behaviour change strategy or process;

* Randomized Control Trial or Systematic Review methodology;

* High quality peer review journal published;

* Numeric impact data point;

* Published since 2010.

4. A substantial number of the research processes identified and meeting those criteria relate to health issues - for example see this filtered search for health [ https://directimpact.comminit.com/ci_search?keys=&field_domain_access=di... ] - with as a further example this filter for health and community engagement [ https://directimpact.comminit.com/ci_search?keys=&field_domain_access=di... ]

5. Just a few specific health examples include:

Community Women's Groups - 22% Lower Neonatal Mortality

Social Health Activists - Neonatal Mortality Reduced: 30 vs. 44 per 1,000

Community Action - Odds of Minimum Dietary Diversity up 39%

ICT and Continuum of Care Service - Health Worker Visits up 11 Percentage Points

Counseling, Mobilization, Media - 13.6 Percentage Point Increase in Dietary Diversity

6. In addition to those included at present online and in the physical pack [ https://directimpact.comminit.com/ ] we have identified, and are putting into the same format, an additional 50 research results that meet the criteria outlined in 2 above. They will be uploaded over the next few months.

7. Work is also taking place to distill, communicate and debate the strategic and investment implications of this compelling and high quality data - for example (without prejudging what will result from that work) there is substantive direct impact data for the social change process and role of women's groups.

Please do let us know if you have any questions or observations. Most happy to receive and discuss.

We are also very keen to receive links to any research that in your opinion meets all of the criteria outlined in 2 above. Please do send to us.

For your discussion and debate.

Thanks - much appreciated - Warren
