Dear Neil and colleagues
Below is a further posting for a new answer from the IPCRG iQ&A service
20th December 2021
An evidence based advice sheet for primary care on the effectiveness of vaccinations against the Omicron variant from the IPCRG iQ&A service <https://www.ipcrg.org/resources/ipcrg-covid-19-and-respiratory-qa> is now available. We hope this will help you in getting succinct up to date advice.
We also encourage front line community care workers to join the IPCRG Sentinel Network <https://www.ipcrg.org/IPCRG_Sentinel_Network>, who tell us what questions need to be answered, to share your voice and experience of respiratory primary care needs.
How effective are the current SARS-CoV-2 vaccines against the Omicron variant?
Our answer outlines the context of this variant, its spread and origin. Although the significance of the mutations in the Omicron variant remains under investigation, the knowledge to date is summarised. The expectations around the performance of the current vaccines and the need for booster vaccinations is also described. This answer will be updated again shortly as new evidence comes to light.
