Our answer outlines the context of this variant, its spread and origin. Although the significance of the mutations in the Omicron variant remains under investigation, the knowledge to date is summarised. The expectations around the performance of the current vaccines and the need for booster vaccinations is also described. This answer will be updated again shortly as new evidence comes to light.
