Implementation Science and Global Health are intricately linked as researchers and practitioners collaborate to solve real world problems and benefit human and planetary health around the world. The Nigerian Implementation Science Alliance (NISA) is a model for developing research infrastructure that blends community-based realities with scientific pursuits. Implementation Science is not just a term, it is a way of thinking. Learn from leaders of NISA about the role of implementation

science in understanding and strengthening health systems. Gain key insights into how to build skills and infrastructure in implementation science. NISA, with support from NIH, Fogarty International, and the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), has built key collaborations in Nigeria and is setting an example for other LMICs.

Speakers:

Echezona Ezeanolue, MD, MPH, FAAP, FIDSA

Professor Ezeanolue is a physician-scientist specializing in implementation science to enhance the effectiveness and quality of health services. With over a decade of experience as the Director of the HRSA-funded Nevada Comprehensive Maternal-Child HIV program, he has led numerous high-

impact research projects in both the United States and Nigeria, including the Baby Shower Trial and iSTAR Trial, which recruited over 16,000 participants across multiple sites. He holds a doctorate degree in medicine and a master’s degree in public health. He is a professor of pediatrics and epidemiology at the University of Nigeria, where he also leads the IVAN Research Institute, the Nigeria Implementation Science Alliance (NISA), and the ICON-3 Practice-Based

Research Network. He is also the principal investigator for key projects aimed at accelerating cervical cancer elimination, community screening for hypertension and strengthening HIV research capacity in Nigeria. Professor

Ezeanolue’s contributions to public health have been widely recognized, earning him accolades such as Nevada Public Health Leader of the Year and AAP Local Hero. He has served on several national committees in the United States, including the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices and the NIH study section.

John Olawepo, MBBS, PhD

Dr Olawepo is an Associate Director, Center for Strategic Integration at the IVAN Research Institute, University of Nigeria, and Associate Clinical Professor in Global Health at Northeastern University, Boston. With over fifteen years of experience in implementation practice and research, he co-leads

the ICON-3 Practice-Based Research Network, focusing on integrating health systems and improving care delivery. He is a co-investigator and consultant on two NIH-funded grants, including the ACCESS grant, which evaluates strategies to increase cervical cancer screening among women living with HIV in Nigeria, and the Community Vital Signs (CVS) study, aimed at improving community

screening for undiagnosed hypertension. Dr Olawepo received his medical degree from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria, with postgraduate studies in Public Health from the University of London and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Dr. Olawepo's research interests include health systems integration, chronic disease epidemiology, maternal and child health, and implementation science. His work bridges the gap between clinical research and practical implementation, contributing to improved health outcomes in resource-limited settings.
