Fwd: Webinar: Science Integrity: Navigating Truth in a Changing World, Wednesday, April 9th 2025; 8hEST/14hCET

27 March, 2025

Dear HIFA colleagues,

I am forwarding this announcement from the Implementing Best Practice initiative (IBP) on Sexual and Reproductive Health, at the WHO Headquarters, Geneva.

COMMENT (NPW): The field of Sexual and Reproductive Health is leading the way in terms of progress towards universal access to reliable healthcare information, achieving more than any other area of health. The SRH community was the *only* area of health to include access to healthcare information in the Sustainable Development Goals. This upcoming webinar emphasises their commitment to address misinformation. The focus seems to be on combating misinformation. However, as we have discussed on HIFA, many of us would argue that the challenge is not so much to 'combat misinformation', but to ensure that everyone has access to reliable healthcare information and is empowered to differentiate between reliable information and misinformation.

Dear IBP Network Colleagues,

We invite you to join our upcoming webinar on Science Integrity: Navigating Truth in a Changing World. As discussions around global health, scientific inquiry and SRH become more divisive, false information — whether spread unintentionally (misinformation) or deliberately (disinformation) — poses serious risks to public health, policy, and human rights. The WHO/HRP is currently conducting a Scoping Review to examine how digital misinformation affects SRHR. This webinar will offer insights into this initiative and feature perspectives from experts who have directly confronted and addressed these challenges.

This session will:

• Provide results of a Scoping Review on Digital Misinformation and SRHR

• Highlight real-world examples of how false information can impact SRHR outcomes

• Explore challenges and opportunities for the scientific and civil society community to tackle these issues collaboratively
