HIFA looks forward to supporting this year's Evidence-Based Healthcare campaign, which focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration across the global evidence ecosystem. HIFA's work is based on the need to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration across the ecosystem, as described in the Lancet paper (2004) Can we achieve health information for all by 2015. More and more voices are now calling for better communication and coordination across the system. HIFA has been trying to do this for 18 years through our HIFA forums and projects, but we are far too small to make a real difference for such a huge global challenge. WHO is uniquely placed to take the lead. As described in our recent survey report, we call on WHO to explicitly champion the goal of universal access to reliable healthcare information. A whole-system approach is needed to complement current fragmented efforts. The next logical step would be to convene a roundtable to assess the desirability and feasibility of developing a global strategy for universal access. HIFA stands ready to support.

Global evidence leaders unite for world health and beyond: From evidence to action in a polycrisis
Global leaders in evidence-based healthcare - JBI, Cochrane, Campbell Collaboration, Institute of Development Studies (IDS), CEBHC and AHRU at the University of Oxford - have joined forces to launch the World Evidence-Based Healthcare (EBHC) Day 2024 campaign: "Health and Beyond: From Evidence to Action."
The World EBHC Day 2024 campaign seeks to galvanise the global evidence community in addressing the interconnected crises facing humanity. These simultaneous and interconnected crises, or ‘polycrisis’, threaten the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the well-being of people worldwide.
In the face of escalating social, economic, and ecological challenges, the 2024 campaign underscores the need for greater intersectoral action and collaboration to build resilient evidence support systems.
“We must recognise that a polycrisis brings opportunities for taking action across the evidence ecosystem, building momentum to move from a confluence of crises to a confluence of change,” said Bianca Pilla, Chair of the World EBHC Day Steering Committee. “The challenges are ours, but so are the solutions.”
The World EBHC Day 2024 campaign calls on organisations and individuals to share their experiences, innovations, and lessons learned in using evidence-based approaches to drive meaningful change. By facilitating dialogue and knowledge-sharing across sectors, World EBHC Day 2024 serves as a global platform to share and access collective knowledge and wisdom for health and beyond, moving from evidence to action, while highlighting that interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation is pivotal to transformative change.
“World Evidence-Based Healthcare Day 2024 underscores the urgent need for collective wisdom and collective action to co-create solutions to face the complex challenges of our time. Through cross-disciplinary thinking and innovation, multisectoral collaboration and collaborative funding models, we have the opportunity to build a healthier, more resilient world for future generations.”
JBI, Cochrane, The Campbell Collaboration, AHRU at University of Oxford and IDS call on the global evidence community to share their experiences, challenges, innovations, lessons learned, and promising failures in using evidence-based approaches to take action for health and beyond.

About World EBHC Day: World Evidence-Based Healthcare (EBHC) Day is held on 20 October each year. It is a global initiative that was founded by JBI that raises awareness of the need for better evidence to inform healthcare policy, practice and decision making in order to improve health outcomes globally. It is an opportunity to participate in debate about global trends and challenges, but also to celebrate the impact of individuals and organisations worldwide, recognising the work of dedicated researchers, policymakers and health professionals in improving health outcomes.
