Realizing childhood cancer care without borders
Dear listener,
In this episode, we turn our attention to childhood cancer. In wealthy countries, more than 80% of children survive. But in much of the world, a child's chances still depend not on the disease, but on where they are born. In this episode, we explore what it takes to give every child with cancer a fair chance wherever they happen to live. Host Garry Aslanyan [https://www.linkedin.com/in/garry-aslanyan/] is joined by two leaders who are widening access to cancer care in two very different settings. Khaled Ghanem is a paediatric oncologist and medical director of the largest paediatric oncology unit in Syria. He has kept care going through years of war, earthquakes and a pandemic. Joining him is Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu [https://www.linkedin.com/in/zainab-shinkafi-bagudu/], a paediatrician and founder of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation in Nigeria. She works to bring earlier diagnosis and affordable care to children and families across Northern Nigeria.
We hope you enjoy this podcast as much as we do. Please share it with anyone interested in global health. We also love receiving your feedback, so feel free to write to us or send a video or voice message.
Best regards,
