Today's the day!
Today marks the seventh annual World Patient Safety Day [https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-patient-safety-day/2025] (WPSD), and IAPO stands with the World Health Organization and health advocates worldwide to address a pressing global challenge: ensuring the safety of our youngest and most vulnerable patients.
This year's slogan, "Patient Safety from the Start!", reminds us all of the urgent need for action to protect every newborn and every child from avoidable harm. It also highlights the critical importance of placing children, families and communities at the heart of healthcare transformation.
Our new article explores alarming research evidence and calls for concrete action from governments, healthcare organisations, practitioners, and civil society worldwide.

Yesterday, we welcomed participants from across the globe for our special World Patient Safety Day webinar: "Engaging Families and Communities, Protecting Every Newborn and Every Child."
Participants joined us from Japan, the USA, Costa Rica, Libya and South Africa, among many other countries. They heard from a distinguished panel of global experts, including representatives from the World Health Organization, UNICEF, Joint Commission International and the International Children's Advisory Network, who shared unique insights and informative case studies on safeguarding our most vulnerable patients.
The session was highly interactive, with participants asking thoughtful questions about family engagement strategies while panellists shared experiences from diverse healthcare contexts. Our sincere thanks to the expert panel and to all participants for their active engagement and unwavering commitment to advancing paediatric patient safety!
