Dear CHIFA mailing list,
Greetings! My name is Tobias Whatley and I'm the Digital Communications & Website Officer for the Newborn Toolkit, based at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
What is the Newborn Toolkit?
The Implementation Toolkit for Small and Sick Newborn Care (or Newborn Toolkit for short) brings together resources in a one-stop platform to facilitate implementers of Small and Sick Newborn Care finding the evidence they need to advance newborn care across regions and contexts. We serve as a crucial bridge between evidence and action to close the high-burden setting equity gap in newborn care provision.

How is the Newborn Toolkit organised?
The Newborn Toolkit has been designed to reflect the WHO-UNICEF core components of Small and Sick Newborn Care with Family-Centred Care centred and the addition of Infection Prevention & Control. Within the technical content for each of these core components, you will find:
* Overview summaries of what needs to be implemented, with linkages to key resources;
* Readings, including policy documents, WHO reports, academic papers and other related reading resources;
* Tools that can be used to put implementation into action; and
* Learnings from implementers across different countries, linked to our learning communities and seminars, including real experiences of what has and hasn't worked.
Beyond this, you will be able to find a range of other features on the Newborn Toolkit:
* Implementation Action Pathways that aim to simplify the complexity of health systems change into actionable step-by-step journeys
* Webinars that bring together implementers of Small and Sick Newborn Care from around the world to share the latest evidence and learnings on their subject specialisms.
* A Research Funding Map that visualises where in the world funding for newborn care research goes
* A News & Updates section that keeps you informed on key Newborn Toolkit updates and stories from the wider Small and Sick Newborn Care world.
How can I get involved?
If you're interested in any aspect of Small and Sick Newborn Care, we'd love to hear from you. With a global audience of over 60,000 unique users in 2025, the Newborn Toolkit is an excellent platform for you to share your evidence, learnings, and best practices for enabling newborns and their caregivers to survive and thrive. We welcome collaborative partnerships with anyone who can provide us with additional resources, updates to our technical content, or who can present at one of our webinars. If you have any other ideas for partnership, we'd be delighted to hear about these.
