Subject Help Shape the Future of PublicHealth.Africa – Join Our Governance Working Group
Dear recipient,
PublicHealth.Africa (PHA), supported by WACREN and closely linked to Peoples-Praxis, is evolving to strengthen its mission of advancing public health through open science and education in Africa. Recent collaborative activities, including successful COPPHA online courses on peer review and open publishing, highlight the potential for further growth and impact, which can be enhanced by establishing an inclusive and forward-looking governance structure.
To build on this momentum, PHA seeks to establish a strong governance structure through a Governance Working Group (WG) to support its vision. We invite academics, public health professionals, public health organisations, course facilitators, open science advocates, early career researchers, and members of open science networks and the COPPHA community to join us in redefining PHA's governance and strategic direction.
The Working Group will:
• Define and draft the governance structure for PHA.
• Establish the strategic direction for PHA’s initiatives and activities.
• Link COPPHA activities to PHA's open publishing efforts.
• Explore seed funding and infrastructure support to sustain and scale PHA’s initiatives.
Our vision includes:
• Identifying and prioritising key public health challenges through collaborative and inclusive research.
• Expanding educational offerings, including hybrid and online courses, leveraging our extensive alumni network to train early career researchers.
• Providing mentorship opportunities in public health.
How to Express Interest:
If you are interested in contributing to PHA's reconfiguration, please submit your Expression of Interest (EOI) by May 20, 2025.
To express your interest, either as an individual or on behalf of an organisation, please fill out this form: https://survey.wacren.net/index.php/491763
An initial virtual meeting will set the agenda and chart the way forward. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at eoi@publichealth.africa
Join us in shaping a vibrant future for open public health science in Africa!
Best regards,
The PublicHealth.Africa Secretariat
