Good morning all,

I would like to share some latest information regarding the use of human milk during the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a lot of discussion among health professionals regarding breastfeeding and the giving of breastmilk

if a mother is infected with COVID-19. The latest information can be found from various aources and a round of the best information, here: https://www.larsson-rosenquist.org/en/covid-19-en/

The information is available in 4 languages and is updated regularly.

The main points are:

Breastfeeding protects newborns from getting sick and also helps protect them throughout their infancy and childhood.

Breastfeeding is particularly effective against infectious diseases because it strengthens the immune system by directly transferring antibodies from the mother.

Practice respiratory hygiene, including during feeding. If you have respiratory symptoms such as being short of breath, use a medical mask when near your child.

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap or sanitizer before and after contact with your child.

If you are severely ill with COVID-19 or suffer from other complications that prevent you from caring for your infant or continuing direct breastfeeding, express milk to safely provide breastmilk to your infant.

HERE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFJ_yTIfkhY&fbclid=IwAR2vr51jqAyCue-hu16... you will find a recorded Q and A session with Scientists and lactation experts who are doing research on human milk and COVID-19,

For infants in NICU, HERE, https://www.larsson-rosenquist.org/media/1353/2003_nicu_babies_covid19.pdf you will find a pdf with excellent advice from a Prof. Paula Meier from RUSH university hospital in Chicago.

I wish you all a good start to the new week

Janet
