Introduction: Fady Hannah-Shmouni, United States - AI and health

17 October, 2026

Dear HIFA colleagues,

Thank you, Neil, for the warm welcome. I'm delighted to join HIFA.

I'm an Iraqi-Canadian clinical endocrinologist and geneticist, Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia, and Co-founder of Perceptors AI, a learning platform for healthcare education built with the Geneva College of Longevity Science and used by over 30 academic centres.

Our focus is applied AI for health education: helping universities, professional societies and training organisations turn their own approved expertise into short, evidence-graded courses with a 24/7 AI tutor, certification and measurable learner outcomes, delivered in Arabic, French and English. We are live in the GCC, Iraq, Indonesia, Mexico and Brazil, and plan to train 100,000 learners by summer 2027. Much of our work is with partners across the Middle East, North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, including a current pilot with a university in Kurdistan.

I'm especially interested in:

How AI tutors can support health workers where access to supervision and up-to-date guidance is limited

Keeping AI-generated learning content accurate, evidence-based and locally relevant

Multilingual training for the health workforce, and how to measure whether it changes practice

I look forward to learning from members' experience, and I'd welcome hearing from organisations working on health workforce training who might want to explore collaboration. We are also keen to partner with members on joint grant applications for health workforce training.

Best wishes,

Fady
