HIFA profile: Florence Mwando began her nursing career in Zambia in 1975 and has been an ophthalmic nurse since 1979 when she trained in Edinburgh. She has worked across the UK including South Wales, Cardiff University and Moorfields Eye Hospital in the 80s. In 1997, Florence obtained her diploma in higher education at Trent University, Nottingham. In 1998 she received her BSc Honours in general nursing at Derby University. In 2000 Florence became a member of the International health exchange, head office based in the UK. Florence joined IONA in 1984 as a life member and became a fellow in higher education in 2007 which was awarded from UK Board. Florence has a certificate in community eye health obtained from the Institute of Ophthalmology, an associate Moorfields Eye Hospital, 1985.
