Dear Neil and colleagues,
I'm responding to Neil's invitation to comment on how to improve on meeting the information needs of people with diabetes.
Over the last year, we completed a series of 34 short practical teaching videos on diabetes. Twenty-seven are for people with diabetes or the general public, many of whom may have risk factors for diabetes, are pre-diabetic, or have diabetes and don't know it. There are seven videos for health workers.
The videos were filmed with people with diabetes in Kenya and Sri Lanka. They focus on practical topics, such as Monitoring Your Blood Sugar, Taking Care of Your Feet, and even, Choosing Well-fitting Shoes. They are engaging and short enough to show to patients during an office visit, in the waiting room, or during a home visit or community viewing. They can catalyze discussion and clearly explain what diabetes is, why it matters, and how people can help themselves.
As with all of our videos, they are a teaching resource filmed and developed for people and health workers in low-and-middle-income communities around the world. They are available on our website (https://globalhealthmedia.org/) for streaming and download, and on Youtube.
These videos are now available in English, French, Spanish and Swahili. People are working on translating and narrating these videos in Sesotho and Vietnamese. If you would like any of these videos in your local language, please get in touch and we can work with you.
Kind regards,
Deb
