Parenting and Child Rights During a Pandemic:

Challenges and Opportunities

May 27, 10:00-11:00 a.m. MDT / 12:00-1:00 p.m. EDT

As COVID-19 and the resulting global lockdown grips the world, another silent crisis is emerging: the increased threat to child rights and the protection of those most vulnerable. With nearly all of the world's children out of school and families facing social isolation, disrupted work, unexpected financial struggles and resource insecurity, the resulting stress is amplifying the risk of violence in the home. In response, the United Nations, governments, and civil society organizations have called for increased protections for children and their rights.

In this webinar, Drs. Ashley Stewart-Tufescu and Joan Durrant from the University of Manitoba and Positive Discipline In Everyday Life will present a child rights-based framework for parenting, describe a parenting program that operationalizes these principles in the context of discipline, and share some resources for rights-based parenting in these challenging times.
