'Access to family planning (FP) services empowers women and girls by enabling them to have agency over their bodies. They can better plan a pregnancy and make more informed decisions about childbirth, allowing them to chart the course of their future according to their desires and ambitions... Low Contraceptive Prevalence Rate can be attributed to a variety of factors, including limited access to information and services, cultural and religious beliefs, and inadequate funding for family planning programmes.'

COMMENT (NPW): It is notable that sexual and reproductive health is the only health area where access to reliable healthcare information is specifically included in the Sustainable Development Goals, whereas it is clearly essential for all areas of health.

HIFA profile: Neil Pakenham-Walsh is coordinator of HIFA (Healthcare Information For All), a global health community that brings all stakeholders together around the shared goal of universal access to reliable healthcare information.
