Opportunity to support HIFA-WHO Consultation on Universal access to reliable healthcare information

30 July, 2023

Dear HIFA colleagues,

Our global survey 'Universal access to reliable healthcare information: Global stakeholder consultation' is now finalised and will be launched in multiple languages on 21 August!

This survey is the first vital step in a 10-step plan to accelerate progress towards universal access to reliable healthcare information over the coming years, agreed by Global Healthcare Information Network (the UK-based non-profit that administers HIFA) and the World Health Organization in 2022 when GHI-Net became an NGO in official relations with WHO.

The survey comprises 20 questions on the importance of universal access, what should be done to improve access, and recommendations on how WHO, HIFA and partners can accelerate progress in 2024 and beyond. The findings will help inform future action by WHO and others in 2024 and beyond.

The survey is open to everyone: patients, researchers, health workers, publishers, librarians, information professionals... We have a target of at least 10,000 responses to demonstrate massive support for the goal of universal access and thereby encourage the high-level political and financial commitment needed to accelerate progress.

To achieve our 10,000 target we need your help!

1. Please make a note to complete the survey yourself on 21 August.

2. Please forward this message to your colleagues and contacts to let them know about the survey.

3. Please consider how your organisation can help publicise the survey.

Acknowledgement: On behalf of HIFA we would like to thank our two inaugural platinum sponsors (£2k) Elsevier Foundation and National Institute for Health and Care Research (UK); invaluable technical support from JBI and Evidence for Global and Disaster Health (IFLA); and complimentary publicity from The Lancet and The BMJ.

We invite other organisations and individual HIFA members to demonstrate your support.

Together we can achieve universal access to reliable healthcare information: a world where every person will have access to the reliable healthcare information they need to protect their own health and the health of others.

On behalf of HIFA thank you so much for your support.

Best wishes, Neil
