Polio vaccine communication (8)

Fatima notes: "About the Polio vaccination misconception, I suggested that we need to politely educate the kids at school. So, when kids go back to their homes, they too can educate their parents."

This approach of engaging children as health educators is part of the Child-to-Child approach pioneered by the late David Morley and developed further (and very successfully) by Clare Hanbury through Children for Health.

I would recommend you look at the Children for Health website https://www.childrenforhealth.org/

and wrote to clare directly at: clare@childrenforhealth.org

There is a whole section of the website on Immunisations:

'Immunisation protects children against some of the worst causes of childhood death and disability and helps people live longer, healthier lives.

'Older children can learn the facts about immunisation – Why? When? and How? They can also help spread awareness and publicise health clinic immunisation times or events, take younger siblings to be immunised and help to keep records of immunisations.

'Read our Top Ten Messages on Immunisation for children to learn and share. Scroll down to see ideas on what children can do to understand, find out more, take action and reflect on this topic...'

For me, the ongoing murders of innocent polio vaccine workers represent the most tragic consequences of our collective failure to meet basic healthcare information needs. As you say, Fatima, children have an important role as agents of change to prevent further deaths.
