Poorvaprabha Patil represents HIFA at the World Health Assembly, 21-30 May 2023 (5) Updates from WHA76

24 May, 2023

Hello all, [*see note below]

I'm writing with some updates on the WHA. While I haven't been able to compile daily messages, I am sending this to recap the first three days of the WHA. It has been quite hectic but also very exciting. Here are some highlights:

At the very start of the WHA, I attended the Walk the Talk, and met several health advocates from around the world - and also met Jacinda Ardern, the former PM of New Zealand! This was followed by being a speaker at the WMA-JDN's pre-WHA event at the WMA Headquarters, and then viewing the official opening ceremony of the WHA76. I have also had the chance to engage on the Women in Global Health delegation which has been a great learning experience so far on effective advocacy in spaces such as these. Over the last three days, I have attended a number of side events and have had the opportunity to raise the visibility of access to health information and gender equity as pressing thematic in health through various interactions. Besides that, I have been following the plenaries and witnessed very powerful statements by some member states and NSAs on pandemic preparedness- how these influence the decision-making process will become clear in the coming days.

I will come back with more updates soon!

Kind regards,

Poorva
