Hello there – please find below a press release announcing Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET)’s change to a new name: Global Health Partnerships. The name change will be accompanied by the charity’s expansion into Wales following a merger with Wales and Africa Health Links Network, which will become Global Health Partnerships Cymru. It’s exciting times for us as we celebrate our 35th year and look to expand our work in the future.
Here’s a video of our CEO Ben and Chair of Trustees Julien discussing the reasons behind the name change: https://youtu.be/82i3YVRD16o. And attached is our updated logo, should you need it. [*HIFA does not carry attachments]
We’d love it if you could feature our news – please let me know if you need any more information or assets to help with spreading the word.
Kind regards
Stephanie

Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET) becomes Global Health Partnerships
The Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET) has announced it will be changing its name to Global Health Partnerships from Wednesday 6 November 2024.
The move comes after several years of consultations, which revealed that the charity’s original name no longer effectively communicated the work of the organisation. The new name, Global Health Partnerships, clearly reflects the work of the charity and puts the Health Partnership model – which the NGO has championed for 35 years – at the centre of the organisation’s identity.
The change was revealed to the charity’s close stakeholders at THET’s 2024 Annual Conference this week.
Ben Simms, Chief Executive of Global Health Partnerships, commented: “We are excited to launch our new name, which we feel provides us with the strongest possible platform to continue our brilliant work around the world. Our new name says what we do on the tin: we are global, we are passionate about health, and we work in partnership.”
Global Health Partnerships’ Chair of Trustees, Justin Ash, said: “This is a bold move which modernises the charity’s appearance, while maintaining its dedication to the vision of a world where everyone has access to quality healthcare.
“Launching Global Health Partnerships having just celebrated the charity’s 35th birthday will renew the energy and commitment to our mission for the next 35 years and beyond.”
This new chapter for Global Health Partnerships has provided a springboard for the charity’s expansion within the UK. The charity has, from today, merged with Wales and Africa Health Links Network (WAHLN), which will become Global Health Partnerships Cymru. Early preparations are also taking place to register an ‘arm’ of Global Health Partnerships in Scotland.
The charity’s website will remain www.thet.org <http://www.thet.org> until a domain transfer is complete in due course, after which all content will be migrated across.

1. About Global Health Partnerships: Global Health Partnerships is a global health organisation with a vision of a world where everyone has access to healthcare. We support and form mutually beneficial partnerships between health institutions in the UK, Africa, Asia and Middle East to respond to locally identified priorities which will strengthen health systems and the health workforce. Working in low- and middle-income countries and the UK, we manage projects and facilitate knowledge exchange between countries. By connecting expertise and resources across regions, we aim to create sustainable improvements in global healthcare. Founded in 1988 by Professor Sir Eldryd Parry, we are the only UK charity with this focus. From reducing maternal deaths in Uganda to improving hospital care for injured children in Myanmar, we work to strengthen local health systems and build a healthier future for all. In the past ten years alone, Global Health Partnerships has reached over 100,000 health workers across 31 countries in Africa and Asia in partnership with over 130 UK institutions.
