Quality care at district hospitals (4)

30 September, 2021

Dear Indira,

How are you? I certainly hope you are doing well!

Your post last month to the listserv was very instructive for me and I would like to learn more.

In July, just prior to your post, I was asked to assist the University of Utah with an HBB pilot in Ghana. For the last 5 years, they have been developing a CHW program in two districts of the Eastern Region in Ghana. Now they want to go upstream and improve the quality of care of the district hospitals, smaller clinics, and CHPS centers.

Your advice about antenatal jaundice education, interactive education, and the potential role of both CHW and facility staff is very helpful. As this program moves along, this approach is definitely something that could be implemented in these districts.

I'm also curious about the locations you are working with in Ghana. What part of Ghana?

I will be in Ghana in November with a small team to launch the HBB training in these two districts. Quite a change from my LDSC assignments in Asia, which are unfortunately on hold due to Covid.

Thank you very much and best regards,

Rob
