As a honoured member of the WHO-GPSN (Global Patient Safety Network) Steering Committee for planning the September 2023 Global Conference, (representing the Patients for Patient Safety, Canada), I am delighted that you are representing the HIFA at the WPSD Global Conference in Geneva.
Despite the volumes of (mostly) academic research on "Patient-centered Care", "Patient Partnership", and "Patient Engagement", conventional concepts of the *generic* and homogeneous patients rarely acknowledge them as "Agent"(s) of their own care in sustainable and just conversations of patient safety. It is apparent notably in dialogues about Safety, isolating the multiple Social Determinants of Health (SDH factors) or Structural realities of ethical and legal norms. Healthcare professionals or Community Health Workers seem seldom aware of the anomalies of implicit biases within conventional norms, regarding under-representation of increasing diversity or dynamic nature of patient population in the 21st century.
I hope, as a member of HIFA and as an expert, you *do* address the vital information/communication gap(s) and help all stakeholders recognize the imperative need *for making Patient Safety deliberations intentionally inclusive to be truly global.*
